Commuters who take the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan in the late evening and early morning hours will face closure of the lower level eastbound lanes to accommodate ongoing construction, the Port Authority has announced.

From Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, the lower level, eastbound lanes to New York will close each night from 9 p.m. and remain closed until 5 a.m. On Oct. 2, the lower level eastbound lanes will close from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

"Similar weeknight closures, alternating between the lower level eastbound and westbound lanes, are expected to continue through mid-October," the Port Authority announced. The authority is planning to make weekly announcements regarding future closures.

The construction work on the bridge will involve the removal of temporary construction platforms that were used when the upper level deck was installed.
