After four winter storms in just 10 days, New Jersey’s active storm pattern continues with another storm threat on Thursday night.

That’s right, I said four storms in 10 days: Last Sunday’s ice storm, last Wednesday’s South Jersey snow storm, Saturday morning’s coastal storm system, and Monday’s “blizzard.”

And it looks like Mother Nature has made plans to increase that count to five storms in two weeks, as yet another storm is taking aim at New Jersey for Thursday night/Friday morning. This is another “Alberta clipper” type system, which generally zoom across the U.S./Canada border and carry cold air and marginal (not heavy) snow and/or rain to the Northeast.

We’re coming up on 48 hours prior to the storm’s arrival, so we’re starting to get some clarity on how it might play out.

Here’s a quick look at the forecast as it currently stands:

  • This one is NOT looking to be a significant winter storm.
  • This looks like a mostly snow event, especially from Burlington/Ocean counties northward.
  • South Jersey may see some rain or wintry mix to start, as Thursday’s high temperatures will approach 40 degrees.
  • Timing: First Flakes/Drops: 10 p.m. Thursday.
  • Tapering Off: 7 a.m. Friday

Precipitation Forecast:

    • Forecast Snowfall (North/Central): 1-2 inches
    • Forecast Rainfall (South): 0.1-0.2 inches

Even though those forecast precipitation amounts are relatively light, the timing of this system during the overnight hours could cause some minor headaches due to snow and ice for Friday morning’s commute.

Yes, it’s a minor storm that will struggle to even bring snow showers to New Jersey, nevermind accumulating snow. However, as we have already experienced a few times over the past 10 days, these winter storm forecasts are subject to change and evolve as the storm event approaches. Stay tuned for regular updates through the rest of the week… if the forecast does change one way or another, I’ll make sure you’re among the first to know!
