Six More Related Deaths

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting six more swine flu-related deaths to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all of which occurred within the last two-and-a-half weeks. Is the pandemic getting worse?

Deputy state Health Commissioner, Dr. Susan Walsh, says all of the recent H1N1-related deaths involved patients with underlying medical conditions. "People with asthma, diabetes, or other immune-compromised diseases do seem to be at a higher risk -- as they are with all types of influenza -- for complications and death."

Santa Wants the Vaccine

As if Santa Claus didn't have enough to worry about with Christmas coming. You can add swine flu to his list. The head of a national volunteer group, Santa America, said on Wednesday Santas should be given priority for the swine flu vaccine. Not only are Santas exposed to thousands of kids' germs at shopping mall appearances and Christmas parties; research suggests obesity could be a risk factor for swine flu.
