Newark Teen Shot and Killed in Family’s Store

Law enforcement officials say a young man working in his family’s Newark deli has been shot and killed during an apparent robbery.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says 18-year-old Jamil Bader Jr. was working in his family’s corner store around 9:30 p.m.

on Thursday when two men attempted to rob it. Police say Bader was shot in the head and killed.

Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio expressed dismay at Bader’s killing and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects, who remain at large.

DeMaio says police are making “every effort” to bring the suspects to justice.
