Newark Police Probe Human Remains in Suitcase

Authorities in Newark are investigating human remains found in a suitcase.

Police say a large suitcase with a body inside washed ashore on the south bank of the Passaic River not far from Penn Station.

Investigators are not sure how long the body was in the water, but say it appears to be a black female of slight build, clad in gray slacks and a red blouse.

Police were notified by a telephone caller Monday.

The Newark police department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are asking for the public's help in their investigation.
