Newark cops kill 2 robbery suspects in North Ward, reports say

NEWARK — Two suspects were shot and killed by police Friday morning.

Essex County Acting Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said the shooting took place on the 500 block of North 7th Street in the North Ward. No officers were injured, according to Murray.

Murray's office did not release any other information, including the circumstances leading up to the shooting, the names or ages of the dead, or the names of the officers involved in the shooting.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau/Critical Incident Response Team.

Eyewitness News reported that the shooting followed a series of robberies around 6:30 a.m. in which three suspects jumped out of minivans and robbed people in the street.
