NEWARK — A carjacking turned fatal on Saturday night following a police pursuit.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said in a statement that Quadir K. Jackson, 18, of Newark was killed during a pursuit by Newark Police following a carjacking ended with a crash on Holland Street in Newark's West Side around 7 p.m.

Murray said that Jackson was in the mini-van after he and Mutah Brown, 20, of Newark and Kevin Anderson, 21, allegedly hijacked a Mercedes-Benz and took off when they realized police were after them. Murray did not disclose which person was behind the wheel.

Brown was charged with 2nd degree receiving stolen property and eluding while Anderson faces 2nd degree receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. Both are in police custody.

Witnesses told CBS New York reported the vehicle, a dark colored mini-van, flipped over at least once after hitting several parked cars and that another person ran from the vehicle.
