A day after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie called the New York Daily News' Jets beat writer a "complete idiot," the paper struck back on the front page by calling Christie a "fatso."

During his morning guest hosting with Craig Carton on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" show on Monday morning, Christie called out reporters for criticizing Jets coach Rex Ryan for playing quarterback Mark Sanchez at the end of Saturday night's pre-season game against the Giants. Sanchez wound up with a shoulder injury and is now "day to day."

Christie described Daily News Jets reporter  Manish Mehta as a "complete idiot, self-consumed, underpaid reporter," and said if he were Ryan he would have told him, "you're an idiot, don't ask stupid questions."

In a column titled "Chris Christie needs to pick on someone his own size," Daily News columnist Mike Lupica said that Christie "may have thought he was being a standup guy for his friend Rex Ryan. He ended up looking small instead." He included a graphic with Mehta and Christie's fighting stats titled "Manish vs. the Meatball."

The paper also used the headline "ATTACK OF THE BLOB" inside.

Governor Christie will be on New Jersey 101.5 and the Townsquare Media NJ station for his monthy "Ask the Governor" program Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
