The custody battle is continuing over a dog found in a garbage chute last year.

The Associated Humane Societies filed a petition on Friday to get permanent custody of Patrick the pit bull. The group's lawyer says it will find a suitable family for the dog.

But Garden State Veterinary Specialists says it should have custody, according to The Star-Ledger.

The hospital and the animal shelter organization each accuse each other of trying to profit from the dog.

The latest petition was made as former owner Kisha Curtis appeared in court for a hearing in her animal cruelty case. She's not accused of tossing him down the garbage chute in a Newark high-rise last March. But she is accused of tying the dog to a fence, then abandoning him.
