State Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa announced the appointment of Elie Honig on Wednesday. The division oversees all criminal cases prosecuted by the state.

Honig, a 37-year-old Metuchen resident, had served as the division's deputy director since last September. He succeeds Stephen Taylor, who was confirmed Tuesday as a state Superior Court judge.

Before joining the division, Honig spent eight years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. The married father of two graduated from Rutgers in 1997 and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 2000.
