Assemblyman John Wisniewski wants every newly built single or two family home in New Jersey to have a sprinkler system. "Of all the reasons to support this bill, the most compelling is also the simplest: Fire sprinklers prevent injuries and save lives," Wisniewski said of his legislation.

Sure, but this also adds $4,000 to the cost of a 2,000 square foot home. Not surprisingly, most Democrats supported it and most Republicans opposed it. Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick says, "In New Jersey, where things are so expensive, we don't want to mandate another cost that will be passed down to the buyer."

I'm with Bramnick. Wisniewski says when a house of 2,000 square feet costs $400,000 on average this added cost is just a small amount. I'm sorry but when you're already paying $400,000 then exorbitant New Jersey property taxes on top of that I don't know in what universe $4,000 is a 'small amount'. You can read more about it here.

This bill was passed and now sits on Governor Christie's desk awaiting signature. The deadline for him to sign or veto the legislation is tomorrow.
