New Johnny Carson Book Reveals Carson’s Jealous Side
Heeeeeeeere’s Johnny! And he’s carrying a gun searching his wife’s apartment for clues that she’s allegedly cheating on him, with Frank Gifford!
That’s what a new book about the king of late night written by his former lawyer alleges.
Henry Buskin worked for Carson for 18 years starting in 1962. The story goes that one of his first jobs was to accompany Carson and a private eye to break into an apartment Joanne was renting on the sly.
“I have reason to believe my wife is cheating on me,” Carson told Bushkin. “I also have an idea who the son of a bitch is that she’s shacking up with.”
He was talking about Gifford, who would go on to broadcast fame as an announcer on ABC’s “Monday Night Football.”
On seeing the “S.O.B.’s” framed photographs all over Joanne’s pied-a-terre, “Carson leaned against the living room wall and began to weep,” Bushkin writes.
“I realized that I was probably one of the very few people who ever saw Johnny Carson cry.”
Lucky for Joanne, she wasn’t home.
Joanne, now 81 denies ever having an affair with Gifford although she knew her ex husband was jealous of him. She also said Carson would never carry a gun because he was terrified of them and that Buskin should release his book under fiction.
