New Jersey Sandy fund announces $7M in grants
MORRISTOWN (AP) — The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund is giving 27 grants totaling $7.3 million.
One of the largest recipients is the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group. The organization is getting $1.5 million to assist 700 households.
The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties is among the newest recipients. It's getting $500,000 to provide food to more than 12,000 people who were hit by Sandy who use local food pantries and soup kitchens.
The fund, which is chaired by first lady Mary Pat Christie, has awarded nearly $34 million since the storm. It has raised more than $40 million from over 33,000 donors.
