If you see flags at half staff across New Jersey today, it is in honor of the passing of 96 year old Nicholas Oresko. He received the Medal of Honor for his heroism in World War II. He single-handedly took out two German bunkers, even with injuries, when the men under him at first refused his orders in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. He thought for certain he was going to die for his country that day even before taking his first step, yet he did it anyway. Instead he lived a long, full life which ended at 96 years old last week at Englewood Hospital.

He once told the story of the battle in an interview that you can watch below.
