New Jersey heating up again this weekend
90+ degree temperatures are back in the forecast starting this weekend, as heat and humidity once again surges into the Garden State.
We're now less than a month away from the "unofficial end of summer" Labor Day Weekend, so each of the next several weekends are very precious. It looks like Mother Nature will once again provide pleasant weather this weekend, with just a few caveats involving humidity and rain chances.
For Friday, sunshine will once again dominate our skies. However, just like the past few days, we'll likely see a buildup of white, puffy, fair-weather cumulus clouds this afternoon. Meanwhile, temperatures this morning are cool, with some upper 40s in North Jersey! Low humidity levels will make for a comfortable day, and also means thermometers will rise rapidly today. Look for highs in the mid to upper 80s today for inland New Jersey. The Jersey Shore will be a bit cooler, thanks to the sea breeze, with the barrier island beaches topping out in the mid to upper 70s.
As we dive headfirst into the weekend, temperatures will continue to slowly climb, and humidity returns to our atmosphere as well. It won't be that oppressive, but the increase in stickiness/mugginess will be noticeable by Sunday afternoon. (I really like the comment from last night's National Weather Service forecast discussion that "We've seen worse.")
Saturdays highs will range from about 86° to 91° inland... Yes, that means scattered 90+ degree temperatures return to the forecast tomorrow. Sunday looks a hair warmer, with highs between 87° and 92°, with that increasing humidity. We may very well be talking "heat wave" early next week, as scattered to widespread 90s continue for at least Monday and Tuesday.
I'm happy to say there are no *major* surf or sky problems expected for this weekend. However, as a weak front pushes through the state late Saturday afternoon through evening, we could see a few showers pop up. The front will be pretty moisture-starved, so it's going to be difficult for any widespread rain to form. Raindrops will be most likely in the northwest corner of New Jersey. The Weather Prediction Center puts a chance for a few rumbles of thunder here as well - which I suppose is a possibility given a tiny bit of instability. Rain chances in South Jersey and along the Jersey Shore will be close to zero.
Additional showers are possible late Sunday night, with more scattered raindrops through the early part of next week. No significant, widespread rain or thunderstorm chances are expected for the next week at least.
