More thunderstorms are expected  late this afternoon and tonight as New Jersey ends its latest heatwave.

A Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Monmouth County until 8:15 p.m. for a storm with heavy rain and strong winds up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for central and southern New Jersey until 10 p.m. as conditions are favorable for the development of strong storms with heavy winds, hail, lightning and high winds as they pass including isolated tornadoes.

A Flash Flood Watch has also been issued for north Jersey for heavy rains of 1-3 inches causing localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

Temperatures have been in the 90s with moderate humidity the past several days.

This week is also the National weather Service's Lightning Safety Week which says 53 people are killed each year by lightning, and hundreds more are severely injured.
