Tuesday marks the state's 350th anniversary when a land grant to Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret in 1664 started what would eventually become the Garden State.

State officials are encouraging local governments, schools and religious institutions to ring bells for a full minute at noon to mark the occasion.

Congregation members of the Neve Shalom synagogue in Metuchen tell the Home News Tribune they'll blow the shofar in celebration.

Officials are encouraging residents to take photos of the activities and post them on the New Jersey 350th Facebook page
