Chocolate maker Mars says it's recalling candy bars in 55 countries after plastic was found in one of its products.

Affected products include Mars, Milky Way, Snickers, Celebrations, and Mini Mix.

But it wasn't clear from reports early Tuesday which countries were affected, or how many items were to be recalled. Mars' website was unresponsive Tuesday morning, but  Roel Govers, spokesman for Mars in the Netherlands, told The Associated Press the recall affects 55 countries.

The recall “only involves the products that are made in the Netherlands,” at a factory in the southern town of Veghel, Eline Bijveld, Mars corporate affairs coordinator for the Netherlands said, told the Guardian.

The recall covers several countries in Europe, but not the United States, she told the publication.

The Dutch food safety authority posted what it said was a Mars press release on its website, saying a piece of plastic had been found in a product that could lead to choking.

Mars is based in Hackettstown, in Warren County.
