N.J. weekend weather: Summer-like start, autumn-like finish
Our extended streak of sunny, very warm days comes an end this weekend as a front brings a brisk wind and cooler air to New Jersey.
New Jersey gets to enjoy one more warm day to kick off the last weekend of Summer 2015. Saturday started off with some thick fog over southern and coastal New Jersey. As that fog lifts through the morning, skies over the Garden State will vary from mostly to partly sunny Saturday. High temperatures are expected to end up in the warm 80° to 85° range. I t will also feel more humid, as dew points climb into the lower 60s. That humidity will not be oppressive, but noticeable. Additionally, models have shown the humid air could help fuel a stray shower traversing New Jersey. Odds are pretty good that most (if not all) of the state will stay dry, sunny, and warm on Saturday.
All week long, we have been tracking a cold front that still looks to charge through the state early Sunday morning. The front looks weak. Therefore, the overall chance for rain will be low, and any such precipitation should be limited to showers early Sunday morning. Best timing for the rain will be between Midnight and 10 a.m. Rainfall totals should be less than a tenth of an inch.
The more important weather impact for Sunday will be the arrival of a stiff northerly breeze, sustained at 15 mph and potentially gusting to about 25 mph. That wind will carry cooler and much drier air into the Garden State through Monday. High temperatures on Sunday will likely be limited to the mid to upper 70s, hopefully amidst a few breaks of sun.
The bottom line... Sunday will not be a complete scratch - just blustery and cooler.
Back to Work and School
On Monday, our atmosphere will be bone-dry and New Jersey will be entrenched in our newly found cooler air mass. Morning low temperatures will be in the lower 50s for early next week. Afternoon high temperatures for Monday and Tuesday will struggle to reach the lower 70s - bouncing below normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, there are no big rain events coming our way any time soon, so drought concerns will continue to grow.
So it will definitely feel like fall next week! How convenient, since Autumn officially begins on Wednesday at 4:22 a.m.
Have a great weekend, New Jersey!
