We finally made it to the season of beaches and barbeques.  Certain songs are the soundtrack of summer.  Here are some of my favorites.

A couple of thoughts before I list the songs.

There are hundreds of songs that were specifically composed about summer.  There are hundreds more that were hits during the summer, but not specifically written about the summertime.

Just like with music in general, for a thousand reasons it's all about your preference and the memories.

For me, a classic summer song has a melody to chill out by.  A carefree day baking on the beach with some SPF 30 suntan lotion slapped on.  Other songs fit the bill for playing skeeball and slurping frozen custard on the boardwalk.

Many of the songs on my list you'll hear through Labor Day on New Jersey 101.5.

There's a very good chance I've left off your iconic summer song.  If I did, let me know your favorites.
