We’re not even past the 4th of July yet and we’ve already had 4 major concert events at the Jersey shore. Last Wednesday Kenny Chesney played to 25,000 people on Wildwood beach.

This past weekend Metallica transformed Bader Field and Atlantic City into the Orion Festival, complete with music, a movie festival, surfing competition,(wouldn’t that be great at a Beach Boys show?) horror memorabilia exhibit complete with The Exorcist’s Linda Blair. The festival also had 170 classic cars to check out. About 20 thousand fans per day took advantage of all the fun attractions and music.

The weekend before, it was Phish, live in concert. Let’s not forget Bamboozle that took place on the beach in Asbury Park back in May!

What’s also great about these outdoor concert events is that they are family friendly. Children are being introduced to the music in a much different way than their parents were. Parents can not only pass down to their children, the music that changed their lives, but enjoy it with them, as well as all kinds of other cool stuff.

One of my greatest joys in life is turning my 5 year old twins Lennon and Albert to The Beatles and how much they enjoy watching the movies and hearing the music. They put on concerts for us with their toy guitars and drums and have been backstage to meet them. ..(actually it was The Mahoney Brothers “Long Live The Beatles Show” but don’t say anything ;)

I think Metallica raised the festival bar with Orion and I look forward to seeing what other bands do to top that. I also look forward to taking my kids to seeing it as well. That is until the time comes that they no longer want to go with me, which unfortunately will come all too soon.
