Multi-Alarm Fire Damages 8 Units at East Windsor Apartment Building
A four-alarm fire burned early Wednesday morning at the Village East Apartments in East Windsor damaged 8 units, completely destroying 4 of the units.
Flames broke out inside one of the units of Building K shortly after 6 a.m. destroying 4 units on the building's west side and causing smoke damage to four units on the east side according to a press release from East Windsor Police.
Thick smoke poured from the building on Abbington Drive in the Twin Rivers section of East Windsor, according to NBC Philadelphia and firefighters were on the roof fighting the flames according to video taken by the station's helicopter.
The initial investigation into the blaze has determined the fire started in the bedroom of a unit on the west side but an exact cause has not yet been determined say police.
A 92-year-old woman was burned on the leg and was hospitalized. The Red Cross assisted one resident with alternative housing; the other residents were able to make arrangements on their own.
A number of fire companies from surrounding towns assisted to knock down the fire.
The apartments are located off Route 33, not far from exit 8 of the New Jersey Turnpike.
