Eight-year-old Christiana Glenn was found dead in the home in May 2011. Her injured and emaciated younger siblings were alive.

An Essex County grand jury has charged the children's mother, Venette Ovilde, also known as Krisla Rezireksyon, and her roommate, Myriam Janvier, with 38 counts ranging from murder to abuse and neglect.

Prosecutors alleged that the women starved the children, abused them in various ways, chained them to radiators and did not seek medical treatment for their fractures.

A message left Friday evening for the public defender's office, which is representing the women, was not immediately returned.
