Mother of South Jersey boy killed by police car files federal lawsuit
CAMDEN (AP) — The mother of a South Jersey boy who was struck and killed by a police cruiser has filed a lawsuit over the crash.
Michelle Harding filed the lawsuit in Camden federal court last week. Harding's son, 10-year-old Matthew McCloskey, was killed in December when he was hit by Officer Nicholas Locilento's cruiser while trying to cross a street in Franklin Township.
Authorities say Locilento's car was traveling at 74 mph in a 50 mph zone without his lights or sirens on as he responded to a call. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office didn't charge him.
Harding is suing the township, Gloucester County, the state Department of Transportation, Locilento and others. She's seeking more than $1 million in damages.
Attorneys for the defendants couldn't be reached.
