The Bergen County Prosecutor's office says 40-year-old Tammy Pitts Gaddy and her 3-year-old daughter, Nastasia Gaddy, were found Tuesday.

Police say the elder Gaddy was found on the first floor stabbed multiple times. The child was found in the basement and police believe she was asphyxiated.

Investigators believe Gaddy likely knew her killer.

Police say the bodies may have been in the home since Monday.

They weren't found until a neighbor notified police after seeing people in Gaddy's apartment Tuesday and believing there was a burglary in progress.

Police say they found people, including relatives, inside Gaddy's home but believe they may have gone there to check on her.
