Most NJ School Districts Approve School Construction

Voters in four new Jersey districts have approved bond issues totaling more than $50 million for school construction projects.

Only one district rejected a bond issue in elections Tuesday. That was in Garfield, where the school board wanted voters to spend $5 million to upgrade the district's athletic complex.

Unlike the other four, it was not eligible for a state subsidy.

The districts where spending was approved were Weymouth Township, Rochelle Park, Secaucus and Point Pleasant.

The New Jersey School Boards Association says that statewide in 2013, 18 of 24 school bond issues were approved by local voters. In 2012, 11 of 20 were approved.
