An 18-year-old senior at Morristown-Beard High School was found dead in a Summit church parking lot late Thursday night.

A message from Peter J. Caldwell, the school's headmaster, identified the student as Matt Giaquinto.

"We are stunned with grief at this tragic news, but remain ready to serve the needs of the MBS community during this difficult time," Caldwell said.

Investigators believe Giaquinto may have taken his own life.

Mark Spivey, spokesman for the Union County Prosecutor's Office, said only that no foul play is suspected and there is no threat to the community.

Classes and activities at the campus on Whippany Road are canceled on Friday, but counselors will be available all day for students and staff.

According to the TAP into Summit news website, Summit district superintendent June Chang sent an email to parents informing them of a "tragedy occurring in the parking lot of St. Teresa's Church." Counselors are being made available at Summit High School as well. Giaquinto was a Summit resident.

According to its website, the Morristown-Beard School is a 125-year-old, co-ed college preparatory school for grades six through 12.
