Authorities have confirmed that a 42-year-old corrections officer found dead inside the Morris County Correctional Facility Sunday morning died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Timothy Stoll was a 12-year veteran of the Morris County Bureau of Corrections, according to authorities. The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office has deemed Stoll's death a suicide, according to a statement from Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp.

According to investigators, Stoll was off-duty at the time of the incident. He was in what authorities describe as "an isolated section of the facility where there was no inmate access."

Authorities were notified about the officer's death at about 7 a.m. on Father's Day.

Stoll lived in Montville, according to his Facebook page, and was married with two sons. Hours after his death, his wife and several others posted messages and condolences on social media, many of them co-workers.
