Businesses, for ages, have been shifting operations from New York to New Jersey, but industry experts claim the trend has picked up speed over the past few years.

And that claim is fortified by the long list of companies that have changed their address recently from Manhattan to the Meadowlands or Secaucus or Jersey City, to name a few New Jersey hot spots.

Michele Siekerka, head of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association, said the state has benefited from a strong marketing push known as Choose New Jersey, which was founded in 2010 and promotes the incentives and other positive qualities that New Jersey can offer incoming tenants.

"We have excellent infrastructure in the state of New Jersey for purposes of transportation, logistics and distribution," Siekerka said.

Add to that the proximity to Port Newark and a highly-talented workforce.

HighRoad Press, a commercial printing company, made the shift from Soho to Moonachie in 2013 when CEO Hallie Satz noticed her original location was becoming less manufacturer-friendly and more residential.

Satz said she knew the Meadowlands area would be good for her business because it's still a quick trip in and out of New York City.

"We did increase our business," Satz told New Jersey 101.5.

HighRoad moved into a much larger facility, but at a price similar to what was being paid in New York. The company has a transportation plan in place that shuttles their New York-based workers to and from Secaucus Junction.

"It's much easier to operate here," Satz said. "You're a stand-alone building. We have a loading dock. In New York, we were on the ninth floor of a building with a freight elevator that only ran until 5 p.m."
