Julian Hayes ran for three touchdowns and Monmouth defeated Sacred Heart 31-17 on Saturday.

The Hawks trailed 14-10 when Hayes scored his first TD on an 8-yard run to put Monmouth (4-3, 3-1 Northeast Conference) ahead for good, 17-14, with 2:25 left in the third quarter.

Hayes tacked on a 4-yard TD early in the fourth, and sealed the win on a 15-yard run for the final margin with 6:14 remaining.

While Hayes fueled the offense, the Hawks' pass rush led the way on defense. Monmouth had six sacks for 37 yards, with Eric Macik coming up with two for a loss of 19 yards. The negative plays helped limit the Pioneers' running game to 40 yards on 30 carries.

Tim Little paced Sacred Heart with 236 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 28-of-46 passing.

Sacred Heart finished with three turnovers, snapping a four-game winning streak.
