East Brunswick native Heather O’Reilly made the pass that led to Alex Morgan’s dramatic game-winning goal that gave the U.S. Women’s Soccer team a 4-3 semifinal victory over Canada. Morgan scored on a header in the final seconds of extra time to snap a 3-3 tie as the Americans three times battled back from behind to advance into Thursday’s gold medal match against Japan.

In his third Olympics 31-year old Matt Emmons of Browns Mills won a bronze medal in the grueling three-position rifle event to go along with the gold and silver medals he won in previous shooting events in 2004 and 2008. The former Pemberton High School baseball player has also had his share of Olympic misfortune but could be back in 2016.

Judo fighter Nick Delpropolo of Westfield suffered the embarrassment of being expelled from the games for failing a drug test. The 23-year old, who finished 7th in his weight class apologized in a statement and said he inadvertently consumed something that was baked with marijuana inside before he left for the Olympics.
