New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says fellow Republican Mitt Romney needs to make the case for himself if he wants to win the presidency.

During a town hall meeting Tuesday in Elmwood Park, Christie was asked why Romney isn't aggressively attacking President Obama. The governor responded by saying Romney has 49 days to do his job and convince Americans he should be president.

Christie supports Romney and has traveled across the country stumping for him. But he says the candidates themselves are the only ones who can tout themselves and win a campaign.

Several recent polls have shown Obama holding a double-digit lead over Romney in New Jersey.

Besides presidential politics, Christie also touched on economic issues and the state Supreme Court during the town hall event in Bergen County
