Authorities confirmed during a press conference Tuesday that a body that was pulled from the Hoboken waterfront is that of a New Jersey man who went missing Saturday night after leaving a local pub to walk home, NJ Advance Media reported.

As he was leaving McSwiggan's Pub, 24-year-old Matthew Genovese told his friends he was heading to his home on Garden Street, a 10-minute walk from the Hoboken bar. That was the last time they saw or heard from him.

Authorities are unsure why Genovese headed east, toward the river, when his apartment was west of the pub. He was familiar with the 10-block walk to Garden Street and it wasn't until Monday afternoon when he didn't show up to his job on Wall Street that his family reported him missing, NJ Advance Media reported.

According to the report, a police office searching for the man near Pier A found Genovese's wallet in the snow. It was there that authorities began searching and where they eventually found the Hoboken man's body in the Hudson River.
