Watch as Mantua’s Brenna Weick is crowned Miss New Jersey

Brenna Weick, 22, of Mantua is the new Miss New Jersey and will represent the state at the Miss America Pageant in September.

The fourth time was the charm for the Gloucester County resident who won on her fourth try. The High Point University graduate topped first runner-up Olivia Michaeal of Tenafly and succeeded Hammonton resident Lindsey Giannini as the title holder during the pageant at the Ocean City Music Pier.

“I am incredibly honored and I think that me winning this title on the fourth try shows a lot of perseverance and tenacity, and that’s what you gain from this organization. Not only best friends, sisters, and an amazing experience, and the opportunities. You learn how to be a better person," Weick told Bravura magazine.

Weick's platform is about cyberbullying and a program she has developed called "A World of Difference - Navigating the Cyber Sphere."  She told Bravura that she uses a crumpled up tissue as an example of the effects of cyberbullying on someone.

"I give them a tissue paper heart and ask them to crumble it up. And then I ask them to make it back to how it was before," she said. "And then when they realize that you cannot change something once you damaged it, I try to explain to them that this is what happens to someones heart once you cyber-bully them; they can never be changed back."

Earlier in the week, Weick won the preliminary award for lifestyle and fitness in swimwear according to her Facebook page.

The pageant also remembered Miss New Jersey 2013 Cara McCollum who died in a car crash in February with a moment of silence and a scholarship, according to 6 ABC.
