Eleven years ago, Middletown was one of New Jersey’s hardest hit towns during the September 11th attacks. Today, the Monmouth County community will pay a silent tribute to the 37 residents who died in the World Trade Center tragedy.

They were finance executives, traders, parents, friends, older workers.

“Obvioulsy this day has a deeper meaning for Middletown because we lost so many lives that day, 37 people that we will never forget” said Mayor Anthony Fiore.

Today, at 8:46 am the town will hold a wreath laying ceremony at the Middletown Memorial Gardens.

Fiore says even though eleven years has past since that tragic day, the community will never fully heal.

“That day is still as vibrant and as vivid today as it was back then, so its certainly a time to reflect.”

He says its also a time to honor those who serve our country and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“Its also an opportunity for us to remember all of the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice and layed their lives on the line for our freedom.”
