John Stillwell, the district's director of security, tells the Asbury Park Press says students, staff and visitors will have to pass through metal detectors starting Monday. Stillwell says the high school already owns the equipment, which was previously used only during sporting events.

Earlier this month, the board of education replaced private security guards with retired police officers at the school.

Students and staff are also being issued identification badges to be worn at all times in school.

The district's website says the changes are being made as part of several "proactive measures."
