ROSELLE — A U.S. Marine recruiter arrested as a suspect in a luring incident in Union County may be connected to other reported cases in nearby communities, officials said Wednesday.

Wade Phillips, 27, was driving a government vehicle Oct. 5 when he parked on 7th Street and Chestnut Avenue in Roselle after passing an 10-year-old boy and two 11-year-old girls walking down the street, Union County Acting Prosecutor Grace Park said.

Phillips allegedly waved the children over to watch as he touched himself inappropriately, according to Grace, who said the children immediately went to school and reported what had happened.

Investigators from Roselle and Roselle Park are working to determine if Phillips, who works at the U.S. Marines Corp office in Elizabeth, is responsible for at least five other similar incidents in the past six weeks.

Park said Phillips was arrested at his home without incident.

Phillips was charged with second-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held pending $125,000 bail at the Union County Jail.

Park asked anyone with information about these incidents to call the Union County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-698-9529, Roselle Police at 908-245-9200, or Roselle Park Police at 908-966-1224.
