Armed with a search warrant, an NYPD Crime Scene Unit van and detectives arrived at the Maple Shade, N.J., home of Pedro Hernandez on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, Hernandez confessed last month to killing Etan Patz.

Etan vanished on his way to school on May 25, 1979. Hernandez was working as a stock clerk at a convenience store outside the bus stop where Etan was last seen. Hernandez has said he suffocated the boy, then put the body in a bag and walked it down the street, according to authorities.

Chief police spokesman Paul Browne says the search is part of the ongoing investigation.
