MANASQUAN — A fire Sunday destroyed a business that has been operating in Monmouth County for four generations.

Manasquan Fire Marshal Chris Barkalow told New Jersey 101.5 fire broke out at Mueller's Flowers & Gifts on Route 71 around 7:20 p.m. A second alarm was sounded as Manasquan fire fighters arrived, which brought mutual aid from Asbury Park, Brielle, Neptune Township, Sea Girt and Wall.

Barkalow said the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, with crews remaining on scene until 11:30 p.m. to make sure the fire was completely out. One Manasquan fire fighter was hospitalized and released for smoke inhalation.

The building is where Mueller's has been located for more than 70 years old, with several expansions and build outs over the year, according to Barkalow. He said an adjacent greenhouse was also damaged by the fire.

Mueller's recently came under new ownership, according to the store's website. The store has not posted about the fire on its Facebook page.

The Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office is also investigating the fire.

According to its website, the florist has been in business for more than 70 years.
