Tram cars manager: It’s Atlantic City’s fault we’re struggling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- The manager of the company responsible for operating Atlantic City's boardwalk tram cars is blaming city officials for his financial woes.

Tim Bowland, manager of B&B Parking, tells The Press of Atlantic City that his winning bid in 2014 was predicated on an understanding that city council would pass a new ordinance allowing him to advertise on cars and charge more for fares.

He says additional revenue is needed to cover monthly payments to the city, insurance and other costs.

Boland says he had conversations with city officials that assured him these changes were inevitable.

Councilman Rizwan Malik says it would be unfair to make the changes since Boland didn't outline them in his bid.

Boland says it's likely he'll eliminate service in the off-season and during nonpeak hours.
