Agency spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the accident occurred around 9:15 p.m. Saturday at the West Bergen Place crossing in Red Bank.

The engineer of the North Jersey Coast Line train blew its horn and applied the emergency brakes, but could not stop the train in time. Witnesses say the man, 51-year-old Donald Cameron Jr. of Red Bank, did not attempt to move out of the way and laid down on the tracks.

Roughly 200 passengers were aboard the New York-bound train, but none of them were injured. The riders were transferred to another train to complete their journey.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
