TRENTON — A Jackson man who police say led them on a high-speed chase last September — ending when his car rear-ended a woman's vehicle into a utility pole — has been indicted on a first-degree aggravated manslaughter charge.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said Chandler Heaviside, 23, was high on drugs when he tried to get away from Trenton police in his Chevrolet Trailblazer with two other passengers after being involved in a drug deal in Trenton.

Cops gave up the chase several blocks before Heaviside ran the red light at Park Avenue and Broad Street and slammed into the Honda Civic driven by Deja Farrior as she tried to make a left turn, authorities have said.

A grand jury indicted Heaviside on 15 counts, including the manslaughter charge, eluding charges and several drug charges.

Heaviside has a prior conviction and arrests related to drugs. Last year he pleaded guilty to a 2013 charge of manufacturing or distributing less than a 1/2 ounce of heroin. A third-degree charge of heroin possession was dismissed as part of the deal. He served 270 days in county jail and got three years of probation, court records show.

He remains in the Mercer County Correction Center
