LINDEN — A man was shot in the parking lot of a TGI Fridays restaurant on Saturday night, the second time in less than two weeks there has been a shooting at an eatery near Route 1.

The incident took place at the restaurant on Park Avenue just off the southbound lanes of Routes 1 and 9 around 11:20 p.m. where police found a 44-year-old Irvington man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Linden Police.

The man, whose identify was not disclosed, was taken to University Hospital in Newark with serious injuries.

Pictures of the incident posted by RLS Metro Breaking News show police closely investigating a red sedan which has over a dozen bullet holes.

"Violence and fear will never be tolerated in our community. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect those who live, work, and visit Linden," Linden Police Chief Jonathan Parham said in a statement.

Devin Smith, 23, of Lawrence, was fatally shot in the head just after midnight on November 13 as he sat at at the bar of Applebee's on Route 1 in Lawrence. Police charged Noel Powell III with murder in connection with the shooting.
