WOODLAND PARK — A New Jersey man shot himself at an indoor gun range in New Jersey Saturday night, according to authorities.

The 30-year-old Garfield man and a friend were at the Gun For Hire shooting range when the incident happened, authorities told the Associated Press. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police say.

The investigation is ongoing but authorities say it appears to have been a suicide. Woodland Park Police public information officials were not immediately available for comment. The name of the deceased has not been released.

An outgoing phone message at the shooting range Sunday states that the facility is closed "due to unforeseen circumstances," but there is no indication as to when Gun For Hire will reopen. A similar message appears on the range's Facebook page.

In Janurary 2015, a corrections officer from Woodbridge fatally shot himself inside the Shore Shot Pistol Range in Lakewood. In September of that same year, a 21-year-old man shot himself in the head inside the RTSP range in Randolph Township. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office ruled the death a suicide.
