Essex County prosecutors say 47-year-old Daryl Logan of Newark was punched during the fight and fell to the ground. They say Jaworski Sneed, an East Orange resident who wasn't directly involved in the brawl, then came from behind and shot Logan in the back while he was on the ground.

Prosecutors say Logan's daughter, who lived across the street from the store, witnessed the murder.

Sneed, who was 17 when the shooting occurred, was convicted last month on murder and weapons charges. But he continued to maintain his innocence during Monday's sentencing hearing.
