Alfred Ferguson also was ordered Wednesday to pay $34,136 in restitution. The 55-year-old Newark resident also will have to serve three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison.

Prosecutors say Ferguson robbed the Garden State Community Bank in Newark on Sept. 17, 2012, and again on Oct. 9, 2012.

In both cases, he entered the bank wearing a red bandana over the lower part of his face and verbally threatened a teller. He then vaulted over the glass partition and took money from tellers' drawers.

Police caught Ferguson moments after the second robbery, as he tried to flee from the scene on his bicycle.
