Man, Possibly Armed, Flees Shooting Scene in Franklin

Police are searching for a male suspect in connection with a Thursday night shooting in Franklinville, NJ.

Robert A. Bell (NJ. Dept of Corrections)The suspect, Robert A. Bell, of Williamstown fled the shooting scene as a passenger in a car. The car was stopped a short distance away by police, but Bell then fled from the car on foot into a wooded area. The suspect was not apprehended despite an intensive search, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office says.

The victim and Bell were allegedly fighting over a woman until others separated them, witnesses tell authorities.  The victim sustained a single gunshot wound in the leg as he walked towards his residence.

Bell is 38 years old, is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black shorts and brown Timberland boots.  The suspect has a tattoo on his right arm and left forearm.  The suspect may still have the handgun used in the shooting.

Anyone with information on Bell’s whereabouts is asked to call the Gloucester County communications center at (856) 307- 7180 and ask for Det. John Petroski or call the Franklin Township Police Department at (856) 694- 1415.
