Authorities say a Bergen County man killed his own father in a drunken driving crash late last month.

Andrew Halder, of Woodcliff Lake, is facing charges including vehicular homicide in the Aug. 30 crash acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Monday.

He said the 35-year-old was was driving a 2007 Mini Cooper in which his father, Gary Halder was a passenger, when they left a local golf club. When Andrew Halder tried to drive the car onto Route 18 North from Route 537 West in Colts Neck, he hit the curb, the car flipped, and Gary Hadler was ejected form the vehicle, the prosecutor's office said.

Gary Hadler later died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, officials said.

According to the prosecutor's office, Andrew Hadler's blood alcohol level was above the New Jersey legal limit of .08 percent — though it didn't specifiy in an announcement of the charges what the exact level was.

If convicted of vehicular homicide, Halder faces up to 10 years in a New Jersey state prison, subject to the provisions of the "No Early Release Act" requiring him to serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release on parole. He would also be under parole supervision for three years following his release from state prison.

He's also charged with reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, and displaying a fictitious inspection sticker.

Halder was released after posting $100,000 bail, with a 10-percent option.
