Parsippany authorities say firefighters had to pry open a door to reach 82-year-old Donald Peloubet after they responded to his home around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The two firefighters, whose names were not released, were treated for smoke inhalation and burns.

No one else apparently was in the home when the fire broke out. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 30 minutes, but Peloubet's home was severely damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
