A motorist was seriously injured when his car struck and killed a cow on a fog-shrouded south Jersey highway, then left the road and nearly struck a home.

Lower Alloways Creek Township officials tell The South Jersey Times that the accident occurred around 4:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The man, whose name was not released, suffered extensive injuries and remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon. But further details on his condition were not disclosed.

Authorities say that after the car hit the cow, it veered off the road and plowed through a yard where it ran over a dog house and knocked into a window air-conditioning unit. The vehicle finally came to a stop just inches from the home.

The man was alone in his vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
